About the Artist

Sarah Schabow

Throughout my life I have lived on opposite ends of this country but am a true native of Wisconsin.  Since 2006 Annapolis, MD has been my home for me and my family.  I am currently an art teacher for Anne Arundel County Public Schools and enjoy inspiring my students to create with their artwork.

In addition to designing ornaments I have also been commissioned to paint murals for local businesses and personal paintings for clients.

Materials Used

When designing the ornaments I only use a metal quill and calligraphy ink for writing.  I paint with acrylics and use an extremely small brush to paint in the illustrations.  The ornaments I use range from the basic 2  5/8″ size to a larger 3  1/4"depending on which is appropriate for the type of ornament ordered .  All of my ornaments are made in the USA and come with a gift box and tissue paper all made from 100% recycled materials.

How it All Started

My elf like skills started when I was attending college many years ago and was hired as a calligrapher for a locally famous Christmas shop in Wisconsin.

I had never painted or written with an actual quill & ink on a glass ornament before, but I knew that as an art major it would come easily to me.  I worked at the Christmas Shoppe for only 2 years and after graduation did not design an ornament for several years.

In 2008 I grabbed a box of ornaments and tried out my old skills with the quill & ink and it came back to me as if  I had never stopped.  I created a few for family & friends whom all encouraged me to start selling them because they are so unique.      So here we are….
